Applications are invited from suitably qualified professionals to resource the position of Controller and Investigations Officer, Currency Department, Banking and Currency Operations Division. 

Reporting to the Currency Risk Controller, Currency Department the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Conducting independent reviews of various transactions undertaken across the Department.
  2. Performing any other duties consistent with the nature of the job.
  3. Participating in weekly balancing and reconciliation of inventories and processing outcomes in Coin Processing Unit and approves stock transfer files in the Vault Management System to reflect coin inventories transferred to central vault.
  4.  Supervising off-line shredding of verified unfit banknotes.
  5. Drafting regular reports on audit checks, investigations and evaluations conducted in the Department.
  6. Preparing monthly reconciliation of the Department’s current accounts and the stock of unused notes and coins in the vault and overseas.
  7. Assisting in investigations of discrepancies of various types reported by financial institutions or discovered internally and report findings.
  8. Conducting independent end-of-day verification of stock and stock balances resulting from operational activities of the Cash Centre to determine accuracy in the day’s transactions.
  9. Assisting with site visits to the Bank’s business contingency partner(s) to verify that the amount of banknotes held at relevant agencies are in keeping with the Bank’s record, on a quarterly basis and otherwise, as required following disbursements or receipt of additional stock.
  10. Assisting with conducting daily inspection of the physical space in the Currency Department to ensure that any unsafe conditions that expose staff to risk are brought to the attention of the Currency Risk Controller.
  11. Identifying safety breaches and notifying the Currency Risk Controller to ensure safety guidelines are amended in keeping with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations.
  12. Preparing daily statistical schedules tracking the processing of banknotes and coins, the levels of unprocessed paid notes and coins, the weekly movements in the souvenir coins stock, discrepancies (overages and shortages) detected in commercial bank cash deposits.
  13. Checking source documents relating to the prior day’s work against accounting entries posted to the Vault Management System and the general ledger for accuracy and completeness.
  14. Assisting in evaluating existing operational procedures and other risk management systems to determine their adequacy and recommend changes where appropriate.
  15. Assisting in conducting independent vault checks of local and foreign currencies at regular intervals.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Management Studies, or Banking and Finance with four (4) years’ experience in auditing or currency operations.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Currency Operational Policies and Procedures.
  • Good understanding of banking operations.
  • Good understanding of the Currency Management and Currency Vault Management Systems.
  • Good understanding of the Real Time Gross Settlement System
  • Sound understanding of internal control systems, and an orientation towards the strict observance of internal controls.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and techniques.
  • Attention to details and maintenance of focus.
  • Good analytical skills
  • Excellent observation, interpretative and judgment skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communication effectively.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure.
