Senior Graphic Designer, Public Relations Department, Corporate Secretary's Division

The successful candidate will report to the Director, Public Relations Department and will be responsible, inter alia, for:

  1. Developing the images used in a variety of creative projects, including brochures, presentations, advertisements, posters, banners, maps, corporate identity, logos, internal design needs, exhibition material, books, newsletters, web sites and other multimedia materials, using traditional and computer graphic methods.
  2. Conferring with clients to determine communication needs; interpreting client’s needs and developing design concept for client approval.
  3. Utilizing knowledge, creativity and training to determine, for each communication need, the format, approach and content which will be most effective, meet objectives and remain within budget restrictions.
  4. Operating and maintaining necessary graphic equipment such as graphics computer and peripherals, process camera, film processor, slide mounter, videotape equipment or other equipment as required.
  5. Writing specifications for jobs assigned to external providers; coordinating production of material with external providers by monitoring progress of jobs resolving technical problems, proofing material and ensuring deadlines are met.
  6. Designing and constructing visual displays and exhibits. The candidate will determine the materials and equipment best suited for the job.
  7. Overseeing graphic arts supply inventory, requisitioning purchases of supplies and maintaining the department’s filing systems for completed and archival computer files.
  8. Keeping abreast of developments in information technology, particular desktop publishing and design programmes; evaluating and recommending purchase of software applications and output devices.
  9. Assisting with training of staff in other areas in use of graphic software.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

The incumbent should have:

  • Knowledge and skill in design, layout and illustration.
  • Knowledge of typography and statistical data design and display.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software applications.
  • Knowledge of multimedia projection systems, computer scanners and plotters.
  • Ability to present abstract concepts in tangible visual form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others.
  • Freedom from colour blindness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Postgraduate degree in Art, Graphic Design or any related discipline with one (1) year experience in graphic designing including one (1) year experience at a senior graphic designer level.

OR

Undergraduate degree in Art, Graphic Design or any related discipline with four (4) years experience in graphic designing including one (1) year experience at the senior graphic designer level.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

The incumbent will be:

  • Exposed to highly confidential information.
  • Required to demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Required to give special attention to detail.
  • Required to work beyond regular working hours when necessary in order to meet deadlines.
  • Work requires prolonged sitting, repetitive use of a computer keyboard and mouse, viewing a VDT screen as well as manual dexterity, clear speech and visual and hearing acuity.
  • Pressures may be generated by deadlines, large projects, seasonal peak work periods and frequent interruptions.
